lmao there's a joke embedded in the Japanese which doesn't translate to English
the sentence says "densha ga mairimasu" instead of "densha ga kimasu;" both mean the same thing in English: "a train is coming"
-
-
but nobody ever uses "mairimasu" instead of "kimasu" in regular conversation...
-
...it a verb which ONLY exists for very formal, service-oriented uses (like announcements for your gracious customers)
-
"We respectfully request the favor of a measure of your cooperation." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honorific_speech_in_Japanese …
-
keigo, my eternal nemesis
-
dude it's my favorite thing about Japanese
-
of course it is!
