I, too, like to assume the worst about peoplehttps://twitter.com/RelapsedCath/status/761199846707585024 …
do you think there was anything wrong with his interpretation of that reading?

I'm not familiar enough with the reading. The notion of Christ learning as he ministers is not offensive to me however.
-
Agreed--that He learns and can be surprised is part of His humanity. But two things about Fr Martin's read bugged me...
-
first is that he "changed his mind;" it seems more like he realized that this woman was counted among the children...
-
...than that he changed his mind and gave the children's food to the dogs (to use the metaphor from the reading)
-
second--more important--is that Martin says Jesus learned from this "wise woman;" but she is *faithful* not *wise*
-
the passage is "the Canaanite woman's faith," not "the Canaanite woman's wisdom;" Jesus says "O woman, great is your faith!"
-
...rather than saying "great is your wisdom!" http://www.usccb.org/bible/matthew/15 …
-
a good perspective. But perhaps there is wisdom in having great faith.
