Just a daily reminder that prosperity increases when you deregulate and encourage proper risk-taking as well as specialization/trade.

It appears that a majority of people have either forgotten this or willfully disbelieve it, which is amazing given state of things.

The exact things people call for are how we got here. None of this is the result of free markets or "deregulation" - quite the opposite.

Year after year the scope and depth of regulation in the US increases massively. Ask yourself how that's turned out. Same in Europe.

The idea that we're going to "punish heavily" companies that simply make the most profitable business decision is truly insane.

All these 20-somethings & 30-somethings are too young to remember what protectionism did to the US car industry. Ruined it.

The consumer lost, the products were shit, and eventually the companies that had gotten used to building/selling shit were ruined too.

That is what protectionism does. It does not "keep jobs here" - it just ensures that fewer jobs are created here to be kept. Quite simple.

tariffs are a useful tool which, like any tool, can be overused or misused, with disastrous consequences

They can definitely be used to achieve an end short-term, but long-term they will tend towards harmful.
