What costs more, laundering cushions, or bleaching plastic? Who the hell cares about the benches on a subway train? Japan is 99.9% Japanese, has a low homelessness rate, and has a high-trust society.

What does the % of Japanese people have to do with it, my dude?
-
Magical thinking; assuming that Japanese people are some sort of angels who never make a mess, rather than that Japanese train operators actually do the hard work of cleaning up:https://twitter.com/380kmh/status/1049698576081793024 …

This is one of the biggest reasons I hate the push back against AVs. NA transit agencies are notoriously broke/cheap. Imagine if they didn't have to pay drivers but could instead pay more customer service and custodial staff.
-
The pushback is because they're fucking dangerous. Transit agencies are broke because of Unions bilking the system dry. Allow some privately operated bus lines to operate in your city, and watch transit costs plummet and service quality skyrocket.

What do you mean "if I remember correctly" Are you telling me you don't know about the detatchibility, launderability and laundry-schedule of japanese passenger train seat cushions? I find it very hard to believe that you don't know this information and it's scaring me
