not deterred in the slightest, the guy kept talking over me to his friends, rather than move--at length the topic of work came up, and he told them he was working at Olive Garden. "The customers suck...I have to deal with so many rude people." At this he paused.

I was still working ofc, and didn't butt into the convo at this point--but after a few moments of silence he and his friends chuckled incredulously. Apparently they thought I was just fiddling with timetables for fun--it didn't seem to occur to them that I might be working.
