20 TRAINS PER HOUR, ALL OF THEM 8 CAR TRAINS Retweeted 20 TRAINS PER HOUR, ALL OF THEM 8 CAR TRAINS

      #wmata Board--and region's riders & taxpayers--need to see alternatives & costs: 1) Status quo: 8 minute peak and 20-40 minute off-peak headways 2) Improve off-peak headways to i) 20 minute clockface, 15 minute clockface 3) Improve peak headways to 12 / 15 / 20 tphhttps://twitter.com/HeadwaysMatter/status/1047130848020090880 …

Budget constrained planning model = dodges accountability when "constraints" are largely politically negotiated. It is a CHOICE not to run 20 tph. Put #wmata Board--and local elected officials--on record that they don't think $$$ is worth improved service. https://twitter.com/HeadwaysMatter/status/1047130505991393280 …

you might find this website useful--it gives timetables, in a variety of formats, for every station in Japan. You can use it to check and compare frequencies; here are departures from one terminal of the Sendai Subway's Tozai Line: http://ekikara.jp/newdata/ekijikoku/0410011/down1_04104071.htm …

Tokyo's Ginza line runs more trains in a single weekday than #wmata's Yellow Line runs in a whole week. I wonder why Metro's ridership is in a death spiral.pic.twitter.com/7A8Z1sxonf

The funny thing is Metro actually has access to a lot of capital. They just keep burning it on new line expansions instead of running what they have well.

They're spending absurd amounts of money right now buying up houses to demolish them. The rationale is that then they can build another line.https://www.washingtonpost.com/realestate/housing-counsel-property-owners-should-know-their-rights-in-eminent-domain-cases/2014/04/24/ff215cde-c4d6-11e3-b574-f8748871856a_story.html …

Sorry. Still connected to a new metro line project, though, no?

Yes--but WMATA isn't the one buying property

My understanding is the money still could have been better spent on improving already existing Maryland segments of the Metro system. I think what you're saying is "MD politics, not WMATA, is to blame here" but it's still a suboptimal use of money. Quality before size.

Yes, the money could probably be better spent as you describe--my point was more that WMATA couldn't spend that money elsewhere even if they wanted to, since they're not the ones spending it now

We all agree: -#wmata needs to be responsible steward of taxpayer $$$ it spends. That means back-to-basics grunt work of maintaining & running trains on time. -Region (MTA, MWAA) spent $$$ on new transit projects/expansions of questionable value (@purplelinenow Silver Line)
