In 1991, my family moved to Japan, to a suburb of Tokyo called Machida. I attended a preschool while there, the only blond kid in the building.pic.twitter.com/UK1UUtAUn7
We lived in a little apartment and didn't own a car--but between my dad's bike, the local buses, and the marvelous trains, it was never really a problem. It was around this time that I began to love train travel.pic.twitter.com/rld82aoMcu
In 1993, we moved back to the Boston area, to an apartment on the border of Cambridge and Somerville. There were a lot of young families in the neighborhood, and the complex was mostly walled off, so there were lots of other kids to play with & we had pretty free reign to explorepic.twitter.com/69DgC1pKsT
We stayed for three years, then moved again in 1996 to my grandparents' farm in Dorset, England. While I have many fond memories here , it was jarring to live with only one neighbor and no trains nearby... While there, I attended a Catholic school and had my first communion.pic.twitter.com/qGWJ5JjpaV
Then, as 1997 turned into 1998, we returned to the USA--this time to western Massachusetts. I returned to American public school halfway through third grade, and continued through high school, college, and into my working life living in this area, traveling whenever I could.pic.twitter.com/ynD6XJttgG
My first real job after graduating was in economic modeling & consulting (read: sales). That was in fall 2011, and the next January, I moved out of my parents' house and into Northampton. During this time I traveled a lot for work.pic.twitter.com/iIsPitTCzX
I quit that job in 2013, and moved into my current apartment in Northampton. 6 weeks after quitting, I started my current job as a transit planner. The following spring, I started going back to church after a long absence, and the next fall, made my first solo trip to Japan.pic.twitter.com/NsLKBF0gPd
...and the rest is fairly well documented on Twitter! I started #TrainTwitter in earnest in summer 2016, posting threads of pictures from my 2014 trip to Japan and then taking it from there.pic.twitter.com/4ZUnPrYdFP
