Yeah, they SHOULD be paying uber drivers more than they get, and the fares are generally too low to support the business. Would prob be better than taxis even with such reforms so idk why they don't

Because it's not as profitable of a business? It's what happens when shareholders forget that providing value is the backbone of profit.

It's not profitable now, they lose tons of money every quarter--only infusions of new VC keep them from going under

Which begs the question, if they're not profitable what value are they providing? I mean I guess I'm glad that people are employed by Uber? I dunno, this "sharing economy" just seems like it worked better when high trust meant you could pick up hitchhikers.
