It still seems like a bad deal. You really have to hustle to make a living as a driver and afaik you get no support if your car breaks down.

Yeah, they SHOULD be paying uber drivers more than they get, and the fares are generally too low to support the business. Would prob be better than taxis even with such reforms so idk why they don't
-
Because it's not as profitable of a business? It's what happens when shareholders forget that providing value is the backbone of profit.
-
It's not profitable now, they lose tons of money every quarter--only infusions of new VC keep them from going under
-
Which begs the question, if they're not profitable what value are they providing? I mean I guess I'm glad that people are employed by Uber? I dunno, this "sharing economy" just seems like it worked better when high trust meant you could pick up hitchhikers.

Yeah just like wait around a while and plan ahead of time to avoid paying surge prices. The surge price is just a temporary mechanism to pull drivers to hot spots and increase service
-
Life doesn't have to be so fast all the time
-
It does when I need to be at work by 9...
-
Such is the price of a lapse in planning
-
Also you can't plan for surge prices u literally can't tell when they'll be or how high except by checking in the moment
-
you have to live in the area, ofc.

My experience with uber here in BFE: 90% of the time good, quick ride for about 6 dollars, 10% too expensive, walk. My experience with taxis in BFE: 60% of the time takes forever to get picked up, crappy cars, 40% never even shows up. Uber wins no contest.
