Tying up the past week's Twitter threads on (you guessed it) transportation // @transitmatters @zagush @ted4phttp://blog.bimajority.org/2018/09/23/tying-up-the-past-weeks-twitter-threads-on-you-guessed-it-transportation/ …
I like it--I would want to see higher frequency but one step at a time, after all

The plus side is that Stadler and presumably other makers will sell you EMUs and DMUs from the same family so you can share maintenance facilities, parts, and staff training. And I don't think East-West calls for more than 200 pax per hour.
-
Certainly will never get more than 200 per hour if there's only one train per hour...
-
Well, if the trains start to fill up, you can add more. For that distance you probably want a bit nicer interior fitment though, more intercity and less transity.
-
You can get very nice interior fittings even on trains carrying thousands per hour, provided the frequency and # of cars per train are there. It's true that you can add more, but my point is that the trains are unlikely to fill up if the headways are inconvenient.
