The place is a dump right now, the tracks and highway a major barrier, and the station only served by the orange line--but in a restored regional rail network it could provide direct connections to Logan, most of northern mass, ME, NH, RI, and Worcester/Springfield

This could be Boston's Shinjuku Station in a few decades if the appropriate steps are taken--the principal transfer point between urban, suburban, intercity, and international trips. A new "center" like Back Bay was vis-a-vis the old downtown.
