UPDATE: tried this on my lunch and had a decent start, was besieging Canton, until a 95-stack showed up at the same time that their main navy caught a small fleet of 20 light ships that I'd just finished building... ...I still think I can do it but I need to pay more attentionhttps://twitter.com/380kmh/status/1043146066701570051 …

Is that a motherfucking FIST OF THE NORTH STAR reference I see for Alaska
-
lmao not intentionally--but Alaska is the "North Star" state... (I was honestly thinking more of the "Hokuto" and "Super Hokuto" trains that run in Hokkaido)

Colombia is "Heavenly Gate," I like that.

"Northland" and "Southland" are boring otoh. "Gold Mountain" is so-so.
-
"Southland" is also a literal translation of "Australia"
-
Yeah but English launders a lot of its words through Latin, so you don't think about the etymological moving parts as much.
-
Or is Austral- Greek origin? Maybe Latin would be Meridi-. Well, the etymology is obscured in either case because the vocal is imported and grafted onto the Anglo-Saxon substrate.

* vocab, not vocal
