It looks like they don't have any bust darts or princess seams; I guess those would be hard to plan out so they don't interfere with the design. So I guess all you're left with in terms of difference is button direction?

The common theory is that male 18th century aristocrats tended to button their own clothes and women had their servants do it, but tbh I think it's just a silly convention like pink/blue color coding.
