This wouldn't happen with overhead luggage racks! What a mess, what a waste...do not get on the train if you can't keep your belongings under control!pic.twitter.com/4xZujJM1xn

Notice nobody else on the train is trying to wake him or clean up...I trust none of them moved to try and catch the box before it slipped, either...this is what "just mind your business lol" gets you--a miserable ride for all, doing their best to pretend they don't notice!
Maybe public transportation in the United States is hell because we make it hell
How hard is it to holler at the dude, “Hey, pal, wake up! You’re gonna lose your pizza!”
in new york you sort of have to assume that anyone acting erratically in public is off his meds, and potentially dangerous
empathy doesn't scale. Guy next to me on the train is barely human. My coworkers are mostly human, my family is human. Although some twitter mutuals are more human than human
I don't think trying to prevent a stranger from making a mess in the subway car you're on really falls into the category of "empathy"
it would never occur to me to prevent a stranger from making a mess on the nyc subway. I'm not sure it would occur to others. Big city living just numbs you to other humans. It's probably natural
it depends on the city! natural in America, no doubt
