significant thing about a railway isn't that the vehicles run on steel rails--it's that all traffic on the ROW is scheduled! This lack of what I will call "ROW integrity" is a bigger obstacle to nice trains in USA than our idiotic crash requirements (it's what causes them tbh)

I just remember it being a PITA for some freight areas because it required clearance cutouts on the guards on the front. Became an issue when your power could be coming from the Midwest where third rail was never a consideration.
