also--at least on a very busy train/bus--it is very spatially disruptive: taking things out, putting them away, moving arms around etc; hard not to bump into people at that point
I see this as being a special case of "respect others personal space". But if the person applying makeup is respecting others personal space then there's no problem.
still i can think of way worse offenses: taking up a seat for yr bag listening to music w/o headphones yea, but almost everyone who does this is insane & you dont wanna confront them sitting with yr knees spread far apart so no one around u can sit comfortably (aka manspreading)
those are all very bad offenses too! just because putting makeup on is irritating doesn't make it the most irritating thing people do on the train, or the only one
taking up an extra seat w bag (or, what really disgusts me, w ur shoes) is extremely bad--would almost consider fines as suitable penalty playing music out loud = get thrown off at next stop; passengers too insane for other passengers to confront shouldn't be allowed on anyway
my favorite was when this lady was putting her feet on the seat across from her.... because she was clipping her toenails. there's no way you shouldn't get a ticket for that
oh and another thing, this one is controversial but people who bring their big ass bicycles on the subway during rush hour so other people can get injured being shoved towards it
HATE EM, bikes are tremendous space hogs on transit and should only be allowed on board at times when there's no crowding (or on dedicated "excursion" trains from the city out to the countryside)
aight i get that... also i feel like it would be nearly impossible to do a full face while on public transit. commuter rail maybe, but definitely not the subway or bus. ive done my makeup on MNR and LIRR and i just dip into the bathroom real quick.
nothing wrong with putting makeup on in the train's bathroom, that's out of people's way
