I am strongly biased in favor of trains because I like walking, I like being able to get up and move around when I'm in a vehicle, I hate being tied to my seat, I prefer zoning out or doing other things to paying attention to driving

I don't think I could've had this bias if I were only familiar with travel in the USA--as shitty as driving in America is, it's obviously the only choice for most trips.

...at the core, I think they're worried that choice in transport is impossible--that the only imaginable way for people to enjoy trains is if driving is suppressed and made as miserable as American transit is today. The inverse of the situation they already know and perpetuate.
