... but you know, I almost forget sometimes, we can't have nice things, because even if we did, it wouldn't be the occasional nice Japanese people I'd be sitting next to here. Rather, it would be quite the opposite to the point where one had best stay home.
Nonsense, it would be the same sort of people who you already live near. The whole point of having transit that's useful for everyone is that everyone uses it--not just bums and weirdos. Troublemakers? Kick them out!
Think about it--surely there's some cafe or bar that you're fond of, which doesn't even have the security afforded by fare gates, open to any passerby, and yet isn't ruined or overrun by unpleasant people...that's exactly how this would work, too!
There is the odd drainage pond next to a paved lot. But even those have, let's just say, progressive elements meandering about.

I live in Florida, but soon this will be most places in the US. I am envious of the Japanese and their beautiful communities. I have no community anymore. It will be something many of the coming generations will experience.
