Reminiscing fondly about the time I lived on a farm in rural England for a year and a half We were on a dirt road, single lane, about 20 minutes walk from the nearest village (and bus stop)--the farm had horses, goats, ducks, chickens, cats, and dogs. Our neighbors had cows.pic.twitter.com/A8TRquXFyx

You described the first 17 years of my life. IMHO, it sounds idyllic but it's culturally stagnant and gets pretty boring sometimes. I prefer cities, as long as they're coastal and have many green spaces.

I need no convincing on this front--there are things I liked about living there but it was verrrrry dull at first after having lived near Tokyo and Boston

Going from Tokyo to rural England must have been an interesting cultural shock.

        Tokyo was 91~93, England wasn't until 96~97

Very distinct lifestyles, if you had to choose now between rural England and inner Tokyo, what would you pick?

I never lived in inner Tokyo, I lived in suburban Tokyo (and would certainly prefer it to rural England)
