Getting extremely fed up with commentary which acts as though infrequent "commuter rail" has the same potential to encourage development as a high-frequency transit service. You're comparing an hourly ferry to a 24/7 bridge!

The transit service that will have the most impact on Hartford's development potential is probably its BRT line, which provides far higher frequencies (from every 7.5 min to every 20 min), and even that's not as handy as the Boston or NYC subways

i thought you were talking solely on the concept of the commuter rail that Boston has, not the heavy rail and light rail service.

understandable--but no, I was talking about rail in general, and in Boston (and NYC) the subway has an order of magnitude more ridership than the commuter rail (which isn't much better than Hartford's new line)

right, that's why i was saying i wished the commuter rail here in boston had EMU's, better reliability, faster more frequent service etc. Would definitely see a rise in ridership.

absolutely! and if the new line in Hartford were built to similar standards, it would probably have a good effect on the local economy too

expanding the commuter rail here to the middlesex turnpike would also be fantastic, i'm sure it would take a lot of stress off of 128/95 Also I work here so I'm being greedy.

I won't bore you with Hartford inside baseball, but what you're witnessing is posthoc justification for massive grift that occurred in the DOT

I wasn't aware but I'm not exactly surprised, so many "projects" have a similar origin

The DOT has been insolvent for well over a year and is quietly siphoning federal grants and unused funds from othet state agencies into theit operating budget so they can make payroll
