But that doesn't mean it's not happening. Just look at DC spilling over into Baltimore and Richmond, or Chicago spilling over into Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and Grand Rapids, or the gentrification of the small cities in the Texas triangle, and you'll see what I mean.

I've got high hopes for Brightline and Texas Central, but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed for either. What someone needs to do is take over an existing, but underutilized rail-based transit system in a red or purple state and flip it over to the Japanese model.

I could see it working in Pittsburgh or possibly Cleveland, and Cincinnati or Nashville would be perfect candidates in which to start one from scratch. Texas, too, but it's cities are so blue now that I only see money-losing, statist solutions happening from here on out.
