I remember when I was in japan, the smaller city i was in was still fairly easy to walk places. I could walk five min to a bunch of big stores, restaurants, etc whereas in the city I live in now (that has a similar pop) it takes five minutes to leave the neighborhood

plus in japan I didnt live much closer to others than I do now. houses were a reasonable distance apart and we even had a small yard. i think suburban US can really benefit from this without losing the appeal of the lower density. ppl care more abt density around home not elsewhe
