Aircraft Carriers and Supercarriers are certainly white elephants.... if you ignore the fact they are always surrounded by a fleet of other warships protecting them lol. People always quote the simulation "Oh we threw 50 Iranian style missle boats and sunk the carrier" No shit.

They aren't meant to defend or assault things themselves, because in essence they're just armed and armored TRANSPORT vessels. They need escorts to get maximum efficiency and usage

I think it's unfair to judge them in hindsight like this. At the time they were built all modern navies including the US and Britain were still building battleships.
