Moreover, the Amfleets are predominantly used on (relatively) short intercity routes, especially the Northeast Corridor--the long-haul, transcontinental routes tend to use Superliners afaik

Doesn't mean it offers the best passenger environment. A lot of these choices are based on cost and weight concerns. This is one thing with hsr, but another with the long journey times of classic inter-city
