Kochi isn't served by any high speed rail lines, and generally speaking, it's faster to drive there from other nearby cities than to take the train. Fewer people live in Kochi's entire Urban Employment Area than in Boston's *municipal* borders, let alone its metro area!
And yet, Kochi has comparable--I would argue superior--intercity rail service to Boston. More consistent midday frequency means the trains are useful for all kinds of trips, not just going to work in the morning and home again in the evening.
Boston's suburban and urban rail networks are certainly more extensive than Kochi's, which is to be expected of a much larger city--but if you're trying to get to a different part of the country, Boston will leave you hanging while Kochi has your back.
