The chinese were printing books for centuries with woodblocks but they looked down on them as inferior to manuscripts... China makes no sense to me- as soon as that tech hit Europe it exploded into the Industrial Revolution.

one big difference was that in west geometry / trig was always part of prestige education, in China it was menial (like being a copyist)
