Franchise system is a bad idea, but the erratic fares are even worse--I wonder how much the latter contributed to the drop in ridership? It's startling to see so much hand-wringing over what is mainly a drop in season ticket sales--ordinary fare sales are only getting higher and higher. Overall ridership barely dropped, and last time this happened (around 07~09) it shot back up again the next year.pic.twitter.com/DvF09P5Z2m
