y’all consider regionalism possible ever again in a future US?

real question: why does US domestic standard of living depend on global military dominance? AFAICT most of what our military actually does has little bearing on making Americans' lives better
-
most of what our military does that ensures high living standards at home = dominate oceangoing trade without firing a shot when our military actually goes to war, though, it's usually *not* furthering domestic interests
-
is it basically like free port space or what? how’s that work?

we should 100% be using tariffs too, but I'm talking about preventing disruptions to supply lines from pirates or foreign countries

Pirates in their current incarnation could mostly be handled by putting .50s on the container ships. Trade interdiction by a rival naval power would be a much bigger deal. (as the US well knows, having used this to its strong advantage in ~every war...)
