When traveling abroad I tell people "I'm from Boston" because they seem to like this more than "I'm from the US." If they ask where in Boston only then do I say "well really I'm from the woods an hour north in a little place called New Hampshire."

Fun fact: I live 10 miles north of Boston and was instructed in spanish class to if saying where I was from to just say Boston. Though to be fair I think my area counts as "greater Boston area" at least, given if I want to take the T into the city I can use the subway.
