Why? Tenant protections are already too strong in CA.

What specific protections for tenants do you believe should be weakened or removed?

Larger security deposits should be allowed, as should immediate eviction for serious lease violations or safety hazards. Also being required to store instead of dispose of abandoned property is a problem.

idk the laws in California but in MA, deposit = 1 month, and having to front first months rent, deposit, and (usually) a brokers fee (= 1 month) at the same time upon moving is a shit ton of money...why should this amount be increased anywhere

Yeah. This amount of money is a huge stress even on a middle-class income in expensive cities. Increasing it is not feasible.

Expecting people to be able to front $3000+ just to move somewhere is absurd...I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I can save up w/o major hardship, but for folks w/ kids, debts, cars, low-wage jobs, etc. it’s p much impossible to save that much and it’s fucked

If you can’t front 3 month’s rent you should probably live someplace cheaper.

There is literally never a time when I have 3 months rent on hand; I was able to get my place bc they only asked for first and a nominal (like $35) security
