I'm honestly astonished Wilkinson, whose team acknowledges a big challenge with the public is changing the perception he's an aloof rich guy from Dunbar, would say something like that about renters in 2019. Next election the NDP are going to play that clip again and again.

But let's break down what Wilkinson said. Given his age, and the fact he was "a renter for 15 years", he probably bought his first home in 1991. The vacancy rate in Vancouver then was 2.2%. The median rent? $600. Adjusted for inflation, that's $978.

Today, the vacancy rate in Vancouver is 1.0%, less than half of when Wilkinson was renting. The median rent in Vancouver $1,300, double what is when Wilkinson was renting. Now as a renter, the hypothetical dream is to own a home! (millennials in vancouver can begin sobbing any time now) In 1991, the average price for a single-family home in Greater Vancouver area was around $265,000, or $432,000 adjusted for inflation. Today, it's $1.45 million.

Now look, how much government should let the market dictate housing policy is a fair argument. But when somebody over 50 tells today's generation that renting is a "wacky time" and "fact of life", they're ignoring how reality has changed in Vancouver the last 20 years.

Woah. Am I missing something? I've visited Vancouver from the Island a few times (new to BC) and I thought 33 Acres was fantastic. If not them, who? @j_mcelroy @33Acres

The funny part is, our brewmaster taught your favourite brewery how to brew, and your other favourite drinks in our place all the time. You shouldn’t judge beer by style. You clearly are on a hazy ipa fix which is fine, but to say our beers are not quality is just stupid.
