You should, they're very underpayed here in america! and dont feel bad you didnt know any better!
So not only waiters in restaurants are underpaid. Those who works in hotels are, too?

Service industry people, bus drivers, mail men, anyone who gives their body up for the better of soceity is very underpayed imo; a bit unjust but it is what it is! just be nice to your fellow humans; im sure they appreciate that more than any tips :P
