In my journey as an API product manager, I have realized how little of the product management guidance that is out there serves API product managers. Check out my chat with βs as we dive into the challenges of building API products

I may not always have the right solution. Sometimes all i have is a framework that might hopefully lead us to one of the right solutions.

Thinking about question such as how many bullet points is too many bullet points becomes very important when you start to think about organizing and presenting large amounts of information, in API documentation for example.

Is there an ideal number of items in a list? Actually, yes. Research has shown that the average human can hold about 7 items in their working memory at a time, plus or minus 2. By limiting the number of items, information is easier to process and retain.

All lists should have a default limit of 8 items max., all kinds of lists. If you have 9 or more items in a list, this is an information structure problem.

NYTβ© did some data mining and analytics of Elon Muskβs twitter profile and tweet activity. Using the twitter API properlyβ¦ itβs probably why the account is now private and the API is now paid.

This one will be interesting to watch! I cannot help but thinking that making #API access paid either will not be a significant source of revenue, or it will become prohibitively expensive for too many, shrinking the size of the ecosystem. How will it end?

If points don't correlate well with time, I have two questions:
1. What the hell are they?
2. What the hell are they good for?
P.S. If they don't correlate with time, you're doing it wrong. If in fact you've ever really used them at all.
I don't recommend them, but they work.

Often in hard times, companies look for the "next" breakthrough or idea that will help them survive.
But in hardest times, the "core" saves you. It is worth finding your core product.. core idea..core differentiation and double down on it..rather than going outside of it.

Google books API is also one of my favorite beginner APIs to play with. You can do some web scraping or just observe the contrast of what you see on a bookβs page vs the API response for the same book.

You can also build a simple SMS app with Studio. Building one with functions (code) and one with studio (drag-and-drop interface) gives you a good context of how you can design products that enable developers differently.

Design strategy != Biz strategy
For the business, design is *strategic* but not *strategy*. How you get to the design, doesn't matter.
Strategy is determining which direction to go in. Design has a tiny part in that, if any

As product managers, we sometimes are guilty of over-analyzing our problems.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for iterative discovery.
But there's something to be said for the problems that are simple enough to be solved with the first thing that comes to mind.
