Well for me that was all automatic. I set up Time Machine by pointing at the local NAS with username and password, and from that point on everything was hidden under the hood... except for when it broke.
I use a network disk as well, but with that I don’t mind whatever happens in bg, but when I am away from home I just use an ext ssd, and that’s what happens
Oh interesting. I don’t think I ever had any issues with Time machine. I have some SSDs that I connect once a day and a couple minutes later everything is done. And restoring also worked every time so far
