I've always hated that chant even when taken that way because honestly when democracy works as intended people don't have to take to the street and get beaten by cops. Protests are, to me, always a sign that democracy isn't working super well
Protests should be seen as the cost of doing business in capitalism. There’s an old Russian story about this, but it’s too offensive to tell. It’s a bit like “this is what justice looks like” while Weinstein still has $25 million to do literally whatever he wants with.
i get it, i just think that's the point of the chant, as in "that's not democracy, this is". i never took it to be about the system we're protesting
