This proposed Florida legislation is full of horror but here's one that stands out for me: "Driver is NOT liable for injury or death caused if fleeing for safety from a mob"https://twitter.com/OccupiedSeattle/status/1308141158086840321 …

Why? A mob surrounds your car and begins to act violently (smashing windows, slashing tires, etc) hit the gas. The mob made the decision to attack and is responsible for what happens next. Whats the problem?

The language is very open ended and includes more than your scenario, that’s the problem. Anyone who feels unsafe can run people down (even if there was an alternate way out) and get away with it. It’s way too open ended, and can be abused by someone with a violent mind.

Respectfully, how would you change the language? I feel its specific enough to protect drivers and their property but still allows scum bags like Alex Fields JR to be prosecuted.

There’s already laws on the books that takes care of all this. It’s not like in the scenario you described, the person would be imprisoned for escaping the situation if someone got hurt.

The new proposed legislation is a deterrent to keep aggressive mobs from acting with impunity. They will think twice about terrorizing innocent drivers knowing they will hit the gas if their windows are smashed. I have seen attacks with kids and pets in the car! unacceptable.

The new proposed legislation criminalizes protest and violates the first amendment You don't have to do a goddamn thing to get arrested under this law other than show up. One bad actor breaks stuff and it's months in jail awaiting trial, never mind the actual penalties
