Cool so does this mean you're going to answer my question about how you think we should respond to this? I'm guessing no but feel free to surprise me

you don't need to be rude. 1. Have demands (as specific as possible) 2. Plan protests (actual civil disobedience - eg. blocking strategic roads, disrupt systems (put pressure on Gov) 3. DONATE to LEGAL FUNDS!!!!!! 4. DONATE TO ORGS/VOLUNTEER https://www.nnirr.org/drupal/border-groups …

Consistent system disruption with very specific demands gets more legislation passed that bursts of petty crap like spray painting the inside of a building. 5. Get optics. Trump is playing an optics war with these buildings. Dont give that to him

I was being rude to the person who called me a moron and a "B" (it's twitter, you can curse), not you I appreciate your response. I do think that outbursts of emotion like this are often the beginning of movements that can be harnessed in the ways you discuss

I also think actions like this--not so much the spraypaint but invading space--put pressure on systems I hear you on optics, but I've been to a lot of peaceful demonstrations described as riots by the police and news next day. Seems like the optics are bad no matter what we do

I agree on invading space. The thing right now is that trump is dying for ppl to take his FEDERAL building bait. She can then send in his goon squad and perform more test runs. You might find this piece interesting. We have A LOT happening.https://eand.co/american-democracy-will-die-in-60-days-54ce25626c1c …

I agree with this completely, and it's why I'm frankly encouraged by any act of civil disobedience Because if this goes like I think it's going to, 43 days from now what we're going to need is people willing to hit the streets and stay there

(as someone who covers protests in Portland I've seen the test runs and while I'm sure he'd appreciate the opportunity for more, I'm not convinced it's strictly necessary for his designs)

as someone who has had the windows taped shut in Portland for a week + is struggling to stay civil, I don't appreciate anything that gives #45 any "opportunity" what will help end the ICE atrocities? disciplined + sustained protests would help--are they possible given who is...

doing the protesting? I went to the Macadam protests in PDX (2018? can't keep track tbh) + did not observe anything like revolutionary discipline btw liked your thread of 9/2, "sitting around w anarchists" u ended up saying "I'm shitposting"--no! why not make it into a novella?

Everything that happened in 2018 is obsolete. Things that happened in June are obsolete. The world is changing very quickly and so is the protest scene 9/2 was a shitshow and a very unusual evening

our climate crisis is changing for the worse quickly human nature is not changing so quickly, sorry to say I recall 15 presidential elections, this one is different--but in some ways much like 68, Trump is George Wallace *and* Nixon "very unusual" 9/2? maybe worth more words?

I spill hundreds of words every night I go out to cover the protests on Twitter. I invite you to read literally any other live-tweet thread I've ever done
