I've been going to these kinds of events since 2017. When you see the peaceful and nice rhetoric followed up by harassment and violence enough times, the shiny starts to wear off on how nice they seem

That is terrible. Years ago, i used that whistle for my dog, because he responded to it and it was something other dog owners dodnt use commonly. I learned some things. I thought about my actions. I stopped doing it, because I could offend someone by my actions.
