The problem is, when the far right comes looking for enemies, they tend to find one. If they can't find antifascists, they'll pick a fight with someone else--in this video, a Methodist preacher wearing a BLM t-shirt

I've seen this happen in Portland. Watched Patriot Prayer scream at people trying to buy coffee across from the IWW union because they couldn't find Antifa Antifascists show up because that way, at least the people the far right decide to antagonize are prepared for the bullshit

It's a double-edged sword, of course. When antifascists show up, it gives the far right a chance to make propaganda. They are very good at making themselves out to be victims on film so that people like Andy Ngo can make and distribute propaganda for centrists

No one likes the word "optics," but it's important not to underestimate the power of that kind of propaganda. "How would this look from the outside" is far from the only thing an antifascist activist should consider, but it should always be one of the things considered

All the same, for the sake of the community: the answer to "the far right is coming" should NEVER be "just don't show up" Because when they come to town looking for a fight, they will always find one

dude mentions young (3 years?) kids getting killed in chicago, it's just a racist asshole but that assertion is incompatible with someone that knows about birth fatality disparities & actually values life

Thanks for this. I fucking hate that we have a Trump rally coming to a Portland tonight, and my reaction was that I hoped nobody showed up to face them. You’re absolutely right that they will find somebody, and if we aren’t there that somebody will have no support

Considering how many times that cop used the word "descalate" makes me feel like he doesn't know how to, he just knows to say the word a lot. Why is it the preachers job to deseclate while surrounded by agitators?
