Activists are talking about the importance of electing more black people About a world where the police aren't armed. Where fines and fees that disproportionately effect black people are waived. "Change I can feel in my body!"

Crowd is gathered behind the Justice Center. Chanting, drumming, waiting Which way will they come?

Riot line pushes protesters to Chapman. Orders to move North or West

Bull rush and double time push to 3rd and Yamhill. A few eggs thrown at officers. Several arrests. Police line seems to have some trouble with discipline tonight. Officers keep rushing ahead and getting pulled back

Another push. Weird thing seems to be happening. It's police and press on 4th and Yamhill, with the crowd a whole block over Good news, police: you've lost the thread but the protesters are coming to you. They walk to the line

There actually aren't enough people to really push effectively. As commanded, the "riot" is on the sidewalk now. Long, arrange groups. I'm not even sure where to go to film

Crowd reforms and begins to march back to the Justice Center with chants of "Black Lives Matter"

There have been some thrown eggs and some rather powerful commercial grade fireworks this evening. But is this a riot? They're destroying the English language is what they're doing

Maybe half the crowd moves towards the riot line. The other half stands back. Again they threaten tear gas. I've removed my mask to run better. We'll see how that works out for me

After a brief paise to ponder my hubris I rejoin the push as the cops drive protesters to Park and Main There was a whole thing where they prevented the entire press corps from advancing because they made an arrest on the stairspic.twitter.com/LUhUBS7hkC

I'm a problem solver. I attempted to climb on the garden boxes next to the stairs. Not in their way, right? Good vantage point to video an arrest without being in anyone's way? Of course not. Definitely a crime. Didn't even get a chance to start filming

It's almost like the real issue is they don't want anyone filming. But that can't be right, right? These are public servants and all

Another bullrush one block up, followed by an immediate retreatpic.twitter.com/ZAskeZQu37

The crowd remains for a moment at 10th and Main. Protesters offer water and cigarettes I think I'm finally experiencing the infamous tear gas cramps. I greatly prefer the ACA version of free birth control

The crowd moves down Main again and is met, once again, by riot cops. The LRAD reminds us that this is still a riot, which is good because honestly it would be hard to remember if they didn't

People just kind of hangoing out at this point. Is it over? I'm not sure. Everyone seems REALLY scattered

I regret to inform you that the cops slashed the Timbers van tires for the usual reason, by which I mean no reasonpic.twitter.com/ElGxAEGKbw
