Maybe 75 out here? People keep trickling in Someone tells jokes over the megaphone "What language do cops speak? Pig latin!" " Why do cops get up early? To beat the crowd!" "What do you call a group of pigs? A precinct!"

Maybe 100 people now. People starting to get up, get ready

An activist gets on the megaphone and conducts a vote for the destination. The crowd offers possibilities, discusses amongst themselves, then votes overwhelmingly for...well, I'll tell you when we get there!

The crowd moves off to a somber, beautiful rendition of "Bella Ciao": chanting and ready for whatever the night may have in store

I wasn't here on Saturday, but there cops seem less inclined to immediately jump to brutality. Only a handful of them, they seem pretty impassive Doesn't mean they're going to stay peaceful, obviously, but I don't think it's gonna pop off right awaypic.twitter.com/2mgw1MV1to

Some people perceive gatherings like this as purposefully stirring up trouble. Not quite. It's a bunch of people exercising their right to demonstrate in a nonviolent way. Yes, they know it will antagonize the cops. That's the entire problem, and it's a problem worth highlighting

Chant: "Every City, Every Town! Burn the Precinct to the Ground!"

The crowd transitions to "black lives matter." A very mellow affair so far. Not a single item thrown that I've seen. Just standing and chanting. A shield wall stands at the front of the crowd, just in case

A group of people splits off to chant at the second parking lot entrance. There really aren't enough people to do this responsibly but on the other hand things DO seem mellow, so why not?

We've got the first LRAD announcement of the evening! Apparently SE Precinct is not open to the public, and if we trespass we could be subjected to the usual indignities The INSTANT I loosen my gas mask, I might add

We have an LRAD accusation that protesters have thrown objects at officers Have protesters on other dates thrown things at officers? Yes Have I seen it tonight? I have not

A protester at the front persistantly demands to know if individual officers killed Patrick Kimmons. Quanice Hayes. Keaton Otis "All of you should say yes! All of you are responsible!" A single water bottle sails over the crowd and lands at the officer's feet

New (to me) chant: "All night, all day, till the cops go away!" The street echoes with the squealing of 100 tiny pig squeaky toys

A protester flees at top speed from the precinct. I'm told he tried to take the flag down. An officer pointed his crowd control weapon directly at him, and he fled The officers preemptively remove the flag themselves "Do you need a lighter?" someone askspic.twitter.com/i63WOsMCRv

A protester moves forward and shines a flashlight--not a laser--at the cops. The cops move backwards and the crowd cheers. The protesters edges forward, towards the line separating the sidewalk from precinct property...then thinks better of it and melts back into the crowdpic.twitter.com/3og2lnX7j1

I think I hear the LRAD but they have it turned down so low I can't hear it over the movement I guess they'll say it again if it was important Or even if it wasn't

They turn up the volume and tell the protesters to stay off precinct property or else crowd control munitions arrest etc The LRAD is now down Burnside instead of within the precinct proper
