I agree, I do remember reading it while incarcerated, and it was profound in the moment. Fountainhead was a good read too. Views evolve though!
I think her books resonate with people in certain places in life (high school especially, feeling powerless more generally) because they have this inspiring message of individual empowerment and a promise of independence from oppression through force of will alone

Unfortunately, living one's life that way can lead one to become emotionally stunted, dogmatic, blind to systemic inequality and injustice, unable to form solid connections with others, difficulty with the concept of love.. haha not that I'd know that from experience or anything
