Hello, it's @1misanthrophile, sitting on a park bench in front of the Justice Center, just hanging out, live-tweeting. Let's see what fresh weirdness tonight has in store

Maybe 200 people here, mostly congregated around the elk. Not a lot yet, but it's early and by early I mean my bedtime 2 months ago: another age of the earth -

Rumors of police in riot gear. A small group of protesters, mostly Portland Protest Bureau, goes to the back of the JC to check it out. Turns out a couple cops poked their heads out, then went back in. This is not a very exciting tweet, but it's what I've got -

It saddens me to report that we are receiving credible reports that some people associated with the Portland Protest Bureau are verbally attacking people and being physically aggressive I've witnessed a few of these altercations -

Protesters are gathering in the street where the elk used to be: that middle ground between the courthouse and the JC. A black activist gives a speech about growing up in a white household and about finding community at these protests -

A protester is collecting signatures for a tear gas ban This journalist recommends that you DO NOT sign ANYTHING while at protests -

The activist, who I have never seen, is collecting names, addresses, dates, and signatures Other protesters are voicing concerns about this. There is a sense of surreality here -

"This is what we should be doing!" one of the Portland Protest Bureau announces Looks like speeches are over for now. People are lining up to sign or looking around in dazed confusion I am very uncomfortable -

At other organizations, there are definitely lists. An alternate to help build an organization is to have a website that lets people sign up there.

There's nothing wrong with lists or petitions. However, signing your name with address and date at an action that has a high probability of being declared unlawful and resulting in arrests carries several risks:
-

*It creates a list of people at the potentially unlawful event *If the list carrier is arrested, it provides the list to the police *If the list carrier is a chud, it provides the list to the chuds

Your suggestion of directing people to a website is FAR safer
