Extremely fucking sad about the removal of the elk statue. It's always been one of my favorite statues in Portland even before the sacrificial fires began If last night's fire destabilized it I'm sad about that too May our sacred elk return soon

According to the PPB press release the fire from last night damaged the elk base and the statue was at risk of toppling Tough for me to trust anything the cops say at this point but I don't know anything about the effect of fire on an elk statue so...

trying to imagine PPB getting the local museum or antiquities professionals on the horn in those scant hours, determining that the metal and stone were sufficiently degraded, then acting according to regulations around the preservation of city art, and really struggling here
