We tend not to question why our society works the way it does because we're used to it, but ask yourself: why should the same department that deals with active shooters and murder and violent crime also be the ones to deal with your drunk neighbor setting off fireworks? 2/6

What I want is a department of public nuisance complaints, or something like it. They specialize in low-stakes situations like fireworks or house parties or disagreements between strangers or whatever 4/6

This job does not require guns. It requires diplomacy and de-escalation skills. Think of them as bouncers that work for the state Then extrapolate this kind of thinking to every problem that requires mediation 5/6
