Is the argument only about stock portfolios? People in my circles are losing their jobs in the dozens because entire industries are struggling not to collapse. That’s way more serious than “oh no, my retirement account!”
It is very serious, I don't mean to downplay the specter of a second Great Depression. But anyone willing to seriously contemplate sentencing millions of people to death for their economic security is a monster, regardless of the nature of that security

They people who are going to lose their jobs are in for a very rough time, it is going to get ugly it there. But there are things we can do to make sure they don't die. We should do those things instead of playing global Russian Roulette

But there is an acceptable level of trade-off, isn’t there? We could go through these same measures every year for the flu, but we don’t because we recognize the costs outweigh the benefits. So a reasonable person could have a discussion about exactly where that line lies.

Given what we know about COVID-19, I actually don't think there's a reasonable discussion to be had here, no. This isn't the flu. This isn't auto accidents. This is a disease that puts 15-20% of the people that get it into the hospital, and we are all going to get it
