There are a lot of different stories I could tell about how it happened, all of them true. The two that come closest are: 1. I started working in the service industry and met people who were born into poverty and dysfunction (my coworkers) and people who had money to burn
And it became increasingly obvious to me how our system works to keep people in cycles of poverty or cycles of wealth. I was a capitalist because I thought we had a level playing field and a meritocracy. We don't. So we need a better solution

Yes, my management consulting stint was really the first thing which pushed me away from capitalist ideology, it showed me in many ways what a lie the idea of "meritocracy" is in corporate America right now.
