So here I am at the VA sitting across from a psychiatrist saying, hey, my shit is under control with my present medication and has been for 2 years, all I want is for you to write me the exact same prescription and tell me who to call if shit gets out of control
The psych then goes on a ten-minute rant about how the meds I'm taking don't work for my diagnosed condition and how when he was at the FDA he wrote a scholarly paper about it but it wasn't published because it wasn't the kind of article they were looking for.
I've worked for academic publications and I know good and goddamn well this means it failed peer review, and also probably partially explains why he's working at a backwater VA instead of at the FDA now But I keep my mouth shut because, you know, I need my meds.
Then he tells me my dosage of the medication that doesn't work isn't enough to be effective, which makes no sense but OK So I smile and let him double my med dose because now I can just cut the pill in half and build up some reserves.
Then he spends ten minutes telling me how important regular sleep and routine is for people with my condition, which I know and already practice but why ask?
"Any questions?" Yeah, actually, like I said at the start I'd like to know who to call if I have an episode. "Oh, you can just call me. If I don't answer, just use the suicide hotline." Great safety net, thanks. I feel super great about all this. This is fine
I can hear someone typing something about how this kind of care is what we'll all have to deal with if we get M4A and to that I would retort that, for me and lots of other people, the alternative to this bullshit is no care and total dysfunction So, you know, I'll take it
