When I was still in the military, I was lucky enough to do support for MARSOC (Marine SF) in Afghanistan for 2 months during my 2nd deployment This isn't a story about being a badass because I was a soft fobbit and definitely not cool No, this is a story about restrooms

I am, for all intents and purposes, a female person. MARSOC is 100% male, so there were no women's restrooms on the FOB. Which meant I had to use the men's restroom to shower, etc. It would be hard to overstate what a big deal this wasn't.

I never saw anyone's junk, and no one saw mine either. After a couple of days, it seemed pretty normal to everyone. Honestly it ruined me, because I've never been able to understand bathroom debates since then.

To be clear: trans women are women, trans men are men. As long as we persist in the weirdness of single-gender bathrooms, they should go to the bathroom that corresponds to their gender. But the argument against it--what if guy in a ladies bathroom?!!?--is bizarre. Who cares?!

Locker room rules apply no matter how many genders are changing and showering and shitting: don't stare, do your business, leave. Anyone violating those rules should be banned from the space. Man, woman, enby, cis, trans, don't care, GTFO

If I had my way, all bathrooms and locker rooms would be unisex. Maybe we could finally start viewing each other's bodies as neutral, functional machines instead of purely sexual. It only feels weird at first. I promise.
