"It is not useful to simply call each other out once a division has revealed itself. We must constantly ask ourselves how it got there, why it seduced any of us, and what truths we must reckon with to mend them." My OpEd hits a big, deep wound.

  2. Specific to gentile writers writing Latin American Jews--try to figure out what kind of Jew they are, and have a consistent backstory for them. There are Sephardi, Mizrahi and Ashkenazi Jews in Latin America. There are also people with roots in multiple communities.

Please keep these survivors in your hearts and minds as you watch the doc series. It took a LOT to come forward and tell these stories and now that they have they are out there and have to deal with folks sitting in judgement of their lives.

Take a lesson from the Jewish spiritual masters of old..before u dare to judge..judge your own soul..before u dare to ask for yourself, ask for your neighbor, before u dare to pray, examine yourself..go within before u go above. There is rhetoric&there is Judaism.Choose Jewish. END

I love that Judaism is elastic enough to be stretched to contain all yet constructed to be an imperfect fit that knows it is imperfect. A real Jew knows debate and discussion are not antithetical to Jewish thought but its lifeblood. This conversation is for the good.

Judaism is Ethiopian, Greek, Indian, Persian, Chinese, Ugandan, Nepali, Peruvian, Yemenite, Spanish, Malian, Polish, and I love that we use the intimate word "family" to describe who we are.

I love that Judaism sees the climb toward a higher spirituality as a ladder and not a tightrope across a chasm.

I love the fact that we have multiculturalism embedded innour bedrock...the Torah...and not the purity people assume.

The value of black girls and women, then and now. Protecting and valuing us has always been a heartbreaking and painful struggle for us - emotionally, socially, economically. If not now, when does this change? I don't want to survive anymore - I want to live.

Yes! And locus of “race” is decentralized — is it what we think of ourselves or what society thinks of us? And what if different sectors thinks different things? These things sometimes line up and often don’t, ESPECIALLY in any of the grey zones outside the black/WASP binary.

Exactly. Race isn’t static. It’s why I don’t buy the “demographic change” hype either. Among adults who say they have Hispanic ancestors but do not self-identify as Hispanic, the vast majority – 81% – say they have never thought of themselves as Hispanic.”
